Behind the scene of Solar Festival
The following fieldwork was on two significant events’ locations – The Rowing Canal and Plovdiv STAGE PARK where the group had the chance to meet with one of the best production managers Victor Dimitrov from Joker Media and Stefan Goranov, the founder of the Plovdiv Stage Park built in the green area of one the seven hills in Plovdiv – Mladezhki Hill, and the manager of the annual Plovdiv Festival – Shake that Hill Festival.

What is the formal education in Bulgaria? What is it to manage cultural institutions? What is it to be an artist, a cultural manager, and an Academy leader? Toni Shekerdzieva-Nowak, the director of the Academy of Music, Dance, and Fine Arts, gave the group a motivational course of action and revealed the city ecosystem through the Academy’s example in depth. 

At the Academy, the expert Gina Kafedjian led a workshop on the main approaches to managing an event. She gave 5 key points on which the participants formed the 5 working groups with the related 5 case study approaches and started brainstorming.

Day 4 | Base Camp

The Base Camp workshop was built on the 5 key points from Gina Kafedjian followed by three stages of preparations: understanding, research, and practice under the mentorship of the Plovdiv team, Victor, Violeta, Neli, and Franz.

The 8-hour preparations of ideas, reflection, focus, decision-making, and level-headed results culminated in a night on the majestic stage of the Ancient Theatre. As a final practice, the group attended the premiere of the Opera Open Festival 2023 – THE MERCY OF TITUS / LA CLEMENZA DI TITO with the contemporary vision of the director Vera Nemirova. She did a special behind-the-scenes talk with the participants right before the start and influenced the groups for a better presentation performance on the next day.
